National Monument Status!
On March 25, 2013 President Obama signed a proclamation creating the San Juan Islands National Monument to permanently protect the BLM Lands in the islands. This was the culmination of years of effort by the community and its elected leaders to ensure permanent protection of these lands. For more information, see www.sanjuanislandsnca.org.

From a happy visitor:
My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to Lopez this weekend.
I had won a contest at the Tour de Lopez this year that included 2 nights at Lopez Lodge and a $100 GC to many Lopez businesses.
We were very happy in our Studio Suite at the Lodge--cozy, nice views and everything we needed.
We used our GC at Lopez Cycles and at The Bay restaurant. Everyone cheerfully accepted our GC. Lovely romantic dinner at the Bay, by the way.
We also spent tourist dollars at Love Dog Cafe (who didn't participate in the GC but cooked up a wonderful meal) and at the Bakery and every espresso place! We ate at The Galley twice---unfortunately Bucky's was closed as was Vita's. I even used a Chamber coupon to get a 1/2 priced bottle of wine at The Galley.
Of course we visited Lopez Market and even the Thrift Store.
A great touristy time was had by all . . . !

ABOUT LOPEZ ISLAND:
Lopez Island, in Washington State's San Juan Islands, is
a great place to come and enjoy an island way of life. Be prepared to wave, because
Lopez is the Friendly Isle. The island is a
bicyclist's paradise and a beach combers dream.
Island is the first stop on the
Washington State Ferry from Anacortes. The island is 15
miles long and 8 miles wide with 2,200 year round residents.
There's lots to do on Lopez: visit Lopez Village and browse in the shops and galleries, eat in one of our fine restaurants, get fresh baked goodies or have a drink at one of our coffee shops. There are plenty of places to explore the beach and wetlands around the village. Or visit one of our county day parks, Odlin County Park, or Spencer Spit State park to enjoy the beach and see wildlife in its natural element. Drive or bicycle down the center of the island, stop at Islandale for groceries or a snack from their deli, visit Watmough Bay, Point Colville or Agate Beach and Iceberg Point for delightful outdoor scenery and great hikes. Hike or ride your mountain bike up to the top of Lopez Hill for a "woodsy" experience.
Kayaking, Cycling, Whale Watching, Hiking,
and Fishing. These adventures and more await you on Lopez
Island, The "Jewel of the San Juan Islands."
Please browse through this website for information about Lopez and resources. Please see our Directory for a complete listing of accommodations, restaurants,
